(PD / BBC World) .- The dream of many people is to lose weight without sacrifice. A team of Australian scientists says that he discovered how to achieve it. The finding could lead to the development of drugs to burn fat and fight diabetes.
The researchers found that by manipulating lipocitos (or fat cells) in laboratory mice could speed up the metabolism.
When removing animals from a specific enzyme made them eat the same amount of food but burn more calories and no rise in weight.
The discovery, say the scientists at the Howard Florey Institute in Melbourne, could lead to the development of drugs to burn fat and to help fight diabetes.
The enzyme, which plays an important role in the production of fat is called “angiotensin-converting” or ACE.
“This enzyme produces a hormone, angiotensin, and saw that a deficiency in mice caused a reduction in the levels of fat and body weight,” explained Dr Michael Mathai, director of research

The scientists studied a group of mice that lacked the enzyme and discovered they were 20% lighter than normal mice who were fed the same amount of food.
It also had between 50 and 60% less body fat.
Scientists believe that because this process occurs without the enzyme, the liver increases its metabolism of lipids.
As the doctor explains Mathai, the study found that, because that process glucose faster, mice to which he withdrew the RCTs also seem less likely to develop diabetes than normal animals.
There are already drugs that inhibit the function of ACE that are primarily used to combat hypertension.
According to Dr. Mathai “know the tolerance levels and safety of these medicines for humans and now we have an additional effect in rodents.”
“But we have not yet discovered whether the same function in obese humans.”
Scientists are now investigating whether this effect can be moved to reduce fat and body weight in humans.
