In our country, the annual figure increased to 18,000 patients, according to Javier Alvarez-Cienfuegos revealed during its conference in Future Century
The situation that health, in their field of research and development as in the patient care and quality of medical service, has focused the last of the cycles produced by the Century Foundation Future, which, under the title “Medicine and Public Health “encompasses the two conferences that have been invited experts in the sector. If the first one focused topic in biomedical research, held on the Thursday before a crowded auditorium of Caja de Guadalajara, put the cards face up on one of the trickiest issues: medical judgments.
This conference brought together Javier Alvarez-Cienfuegos, medical director of the University Clinic of Navarre, director of the Department of General and Digestive Surgery and professor at the University of Navarre. Lack of cleanliness, long waiting lists, patients in the hallways, professionals dissatisfied … radiograph is one of the hospitals in countries like United States, Australia and also from Spain.
Despite being invested millions of euros in medical research, it is true, as pointed out by Alvarez-Cienfuegos, what comes to patients is a “tiny part”.
In Spain, every year 18,000 people die as a result of medical errors, more than the deaths caused by traffic accidents or breast cancer.
One of the main challenges today is as Álvarez-Cienfuegos get that “professional acknowledges his mistake before the family, ending with a sort of pact of silence that exists.” Other challenges that stated aim to improve patient safety, meet the increasing health demands of society, without succumbing to consumerism, promoting competitiveness, technological progress or jeopardize a multi-intervention, which coordination of different specialists, among others.
